POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Math Specialist
FLSA: Exempt Professional
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold or be eligible for Virginia teaching license with endorsement as Math Specialist
- Leadership and organizational qualities which include the ability to facilitate teams, communicate collaboratively, train and lead others, and coordinate data.
- Working knowledge and understanding of the Response to Intervention (RtI) process, at-risk supports, and math development.
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or other Supervisor
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 month position, 200 day contract with 180 teaching days
POSITION OVERVIEW:
To provide the strategies and support to facilitate high quality math instruction which focuses on effective instructional practices related to the specific needs of each child, based on a Response to Intervention (RtI) framework.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Provide research-based, direct instruction in small intervention groups for a portion of the work day.
- Coach, model, observe, and provide feedback to teachers.

Work collaboratively with teachers on the appropriate use of data in making educational decisions.
- Work collaboratively with teachers to plan effective math lessons.

Coordinate building universal screening schedule.

Facilitate the coordination of school-wide and individual student progress monitoring data.

Maintain an accurate data base of students in need of math intervention.

Train teachers on research-based interventions.

Assist building administration in reviewing data to develop and assist in building level professional development.

Work collaboratively with teachers and administrators to coordinate parent education activities.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support the total school program by observing curricular and extra-curricular student activities.

Maintain a caseload of students receiving instructional interventions.

Attend Intervention Specialist meetings and share pertinent information with building administration.
