Position Description
POSITION TITLE: Director of Instruction
FLSA: Exempt Professional
Reports to: Superintendent of Schools
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month employment (250 days). Salary commensurate with education and experience
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Virginia license with endorsement in administration and supervision
- A minimum of three years teaching experience
- Principal and/or central office experience
- A masters degree in Educational Administration/Leadership or Curriculum and Instruction
- Exhibit collaborative and interpersonal skills.
- Proven leadership skills.
- Extensive knowledge of instructional best practices.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and direction to the district’s instructional program.
- Provide leadership and direction to educational programs (e.g. gifted education, Pre-K programs, summer programs)
- Coordinate federal programs
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.
Essential Job Functions:
- Work with teachers and principals to direct, coordinate and facilitate instructional improvement initiatives.
- Work with teachers and principals to select instructional materials.
- Develop annual and long-range instructional goals of the district.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance and progress of the district’s instructional program.
- Identify and enlist community agencies and individuals to support the district’s instructional program.
- Identify, write and coordinate grants to support instructional programs.
- Develop and implement the division’s instructional professional development plan
- Ensure that program objectives are appropriate and effectively monitored.
- Apply a working knowledge of federal, state and district requirements to revise instructional and educational programs.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Serve on committees and provide reports to the Superintendent of Schools
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
